Moon Palace is a counter service restaurant located in the heart of Chicago’s Chinatown. Moon Palace has been serving Chinese-American classics and traditional Shanghainese dishes for over 50 years. We are available for carryout, delivery, and catering. You can also find us on your favorite delivery apps such as Grubhub, Uber Eats, DoorDash, and Chowbus.
The Wang Family
Since 1995, Moon Palace has been owned and operated by the Wang Family. Zhong Pei (aka Jones) and Jennifer Wang immigrated to Chicago from Shanghai, China in 1985. Jones’ parents, Stephen and Minnie Wang, were already living in the midwest and operating multiple locations of their restaurant, Shanghai Minnie’s. When Jones and Jennifer moved to the US, they began working for Jones’ parents at Shanghai Minnie’s Lakeview location while raising their three young children. While adjusting to their new life, they became regulars at Moon Palace. In 1995, they were able to purchase the business from the previous owners and the rest is history. After COVID-19 had brought on new adjustments and challenges, Jones and Jennifer decided to take a step back and hand the reigns and recipes over. In the spring of 2022, Moon Palace significantly downsized from a full service restaurant to a counter service storefront offering carryout and delivery to share its space with Nine Bar, a cocktail bar located behind Moon Palace.
